Malbec Red Wine

Product NameWith its large population of Italian and Spanish immigrants, it was inevitable that Argentina would become a heavy wine drinking and producing country. Argentines drink approximately 95 percent of the wine grown there, but recently has been exporting premium quality Malbec Red Wines.

The Malbec Red Wine Grape was first introduced to the region in the mid 19th century by governor, Domingo Faustino Sarmiento who persuaded the French agronomist Miguel Pouget to bring Malbec grapevine cuttings from France to Argentina.

In Argentina, Malbec is softer than the Red Wines produced in France.  The texture is softer and the tannins are a bit riper than the ones in France. Malbec Red Wines tend to also have juicy fruit notes with aromas of violet. In the warmer regions of Argentina, the acidity of the wine gets to be too low and this causes the wine to have an unstructured taste and they are much weaker than the Red Wines produced in the cooler regions.
