Rousillon Languedoc Red Wine

Languedoc Languedoc Roussillon Red Wine includes the Red Wines named Vin de Pays d'Oc as well and is produced in southern France. While "Languedoc" refers to a specific region of France, usage since the 20th century has primarily referred to an area which spans the Mediterranean coastline from the French border with Spain to the region of Provence. This particular region is the biggest wine producing area in the world, responsible for more than one third of France's total Red Wine production. In 2001, this region produced more wine than the entire United States. This area has been labeled the wine lake and refers to the continuing supply surplus of wine produced in the European Union.

The Languedoc-Roussillon area is home to numerous Red Wine grape varieties, like Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. The traditional Rhône grapes of Grenache and Syrah are also prominent. Red Wines from the Languedoc can carry a variety of different names, ranging from regional designations like Vin de Pays d'Oc to very specific geographical classifications with restrictions on grape variety, like Corbières and Minervois. Most of the Red Wine produced in the Languedoc region are labeled vin ordinaire. There is also sizable production of Vins Doux Naturels.
